Donor Clubs

The Central Jersey Blood Center is proud to announce the upcoming launch of our brand new specialty club program for donors. Each club is designed to recognize, engage & reward our most loyal donors who are committed to regular specialty blood donation.

CJBC Whole Blood Donor

These people are our regular whole blood donors. With your committed support, Central Jersey Blood Center can ensure all our hospital clients and patients are supplied with the lifesaving blood they need.

Most Valuable Platelet (MVP) Club

Our MVP donors are people who regularly donate platelets. This includes any blood type, CMV-, Rh-, male that contributes more than 18 products per year.

Membership Requirements: To be included in our Power Platelet club, donors must contribute a minimum of 18 platelet products in a year.

Eligibility Criteria: In addition to passing the physical screening and health history questionnaire, Power Platelet donors must meet the following criteria:

  • Have a pre-donation platelet count within the following range: 150,000/uL – 550,000/uL

Time commitment:

  • Single platelet donation: approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes from registration to refreshments
  • Double platelet donation: approximately 1 ½ hours from registration to refreshments
  • Triple platelet donation: approximately 2 hours from registration to refreshments

Red Cell Rescuers

These are our red cell only (RCO) donors. This includes all negative blood types, O+ and people who donate RCO’s 3 or more times per year. Red blood cells have a limited shelf life which means that we need your help to maximize the donation of everyone who contributes an RCO donation. In addition, a red cell only procedure can save up to two lives with just one donation!

Membership requirements: In order to qualify as a Red Cell Rescuer, a donor must contribute an RCO donation a minimum of three (3) times per year.

Eligibility criteria: In addition to passing the physical screening and health history questionnaire, Red Cell Rescuers must meet the following requirements:

* All 16 year old donors must have a signed parental consent prior to donating.

First Responders

The first responders are our donors who make themselves available in a moment’s notice in response to an urgent critical need. These are donors who actively respond in a crisis or disaster-type situation. They pride themselves on being available right when they’re needed most and is open to all blood types / products.

Membership requirements: In order to qualify as First Responder, a donor must respond at least four (4) times in a year period to an urgent blood need request by donating within two (2) days of the initial request.

Eligibility criteria: All first responders must be at least 17 years of age (minimum of 16 years old with parental consent), pass the physical screening and health history questionnaire, and weight least 120 pounds.

Time commitment: approximately 1hr from registration to refreshments

Plasma People

Our plasma donors consist of all male donors who consistently donate plasma (more than six (6) times per year). This special group on donors is vital in ensuring an adequate supply of plasma. AB is the universal donors of plasma and this type is always in need.

Membership requirements: In order to qualify for our Plasma People club, a donor must be male and contribute a plasma donation at least six (6) times per year.

Eligibility criteria: In addition to passing the physical screening and health history questionnaire, MVP donors must have the following blood types:  AB+ and AB-

Time commitment: approximately 1 ½ hours from registration to refreshments

Special Delivery

This donor club focuses on life-saving baby’s blood products. This includes O- and CMV-. These very special donors are critical in helping infant trauma cases. Blood used for children is a little different than blood used for adult patients and can pose some challenges for us to make it available. To be specific, blood used for babies must meet two main criteria: blood less than 5 days old and CMV Negative.

Membership Requirements: To be included in our Special Delivery club, donors must donate baby’s blood a minimum of four (4) times per year.

Eligibility Criteria: In addition to passing the physical screening and health history questionnaire, Special Delivery donors must meet the following criteria:

  • Have Type O blood and test negative for the Cytomegalovirus

Time commitment: approximately 1 hour from registration to refreshments
